What is Air Duct Cleaning?

As air circulates through your ventilation system through normal operation, it can pick up or deposit pollutants like dust, dirt, pollen, pet dander, and even atmospheric contaminants from the things we use to keep our homes fresh, such as scented candles. Those tiny particles can build up in the system over time and even aggravate allergy and asthma symptoms, resulting in the need for a thorough air duct cleaning. Air duct cleaning is the process of removing these contaminants.

Henry Mechanical Air Duct Cleaning Process

01
1.

Pre-Cleaning Walk Through

On the day of your air duct cleaning your lead duct cleaning technician will do a walk-through of your home with you, and answer any questions you have about your duct cleaning or the system of air ducts in your home. Before they start working, they carefully place drop cloths to protect your floors.
02
2.

Vent Register Cleaning

Your technician will carefully remove the vent registers and take them outside for thorough cleaning. After cleaning, the vent registers will be placed in a place that’s safe for them to dry.
03
3.

Remove & Clean Furnace Blower

Your technician will remove the furnace blower (also referred to as the fan), and take it outside for thorough cleaning along with your vent registers.
04
4.

Clean Air Ducts

Your technician will clean your ducts using the equipment that is best suited to the air ducts in your home. Air duct cleaning involves using a rotary brush, and either a vacuum that is attached to the same hose as the brush, or a vacuum placed in the trunk line in the basement that creates negative air pressure to vacuum the dust and debris the brush cleans from the inside of your ducts.
05
5.

Clean Trunk Lines

The trunk lines in your home contain the majority of the allergens, dust, and debris that get stuck in ductwork in your home. Your technician will use the spinning brush to thoroughly scrape the walls, and vacuum each trunk line until it is clean. The difference before and after cleaning the trunk lines will be dramatic.
06
6.

Clean Up Work Area

After your technician finishes cleaning your air ducts and the trunk lines in your home, the vent registers will be reinstalled, and if you choose a duct cleaning service that includes having your furnace blower cleaned as well, the blower will be reinstalled at this time. Your technician will thoroughly clean up their work area, and leave your home as it was before your air duct cleaning service.
